When we chose the name for Aurum Preparatory Academy (Aurum Prep), we did so as a commitment to giving the absolute best academic and character building education to students in our East Oakland community. Aurum means gold or golden in Latin, and represents how we treat every person who walks through our doors. Historically speaking, this has been an underserved community which has lived through many complex and challenging times. Acknowledging where we come from, and delivering a pure gold, top caliber education to the students in our community is our way of creating the types of opportunities that make dreams come true -- golden opportunities.

Middle school is a critical time in a young life, and a “fork in the road” moment for students. During these formative years, students engrain their work habits, attitudes, and layers of beliefs around what is possible for them in their lives. By offering a college preparatory education to students long before they are faced with early adulthood, we make it easier for them in the long term to dream big and accomplish their goals.
Developing a strong work ethic, integrity, and a healthy belief in self are among some of the most impactful qualities in life. We teach these qualities and more, believing that by instilling GOLD values in our students, we are creating great value in their lives, and as such, we are helping them to succeed in high school, college and life, and to serve as the next generation of moral leaders.

G = Growth. Our students learn to embody a growth mindset. We all come from different past experiences, and no matter where we start from, we can always get better with hard work and effort.
O = Optimism and Courage. Aurum students are taught that when they embrace optimism and courage, they open up a world full of opportunity. They learn the immeasurable value of a positive attitude and a willingness to face challenges.
L = Leadership. Working well with others and becoming the type of people who others trust to make decisions that benefit the group is key to the positive character development we teach at Aurum Prep.
D = Design Thinking. Teaching a creative, design minded approach to solving problems, sets Aurum students up for being great assets in any field of work they choose. Instilling this type of thinking helps our students dream past any historical limitations and teaches them how valuable they are.
