Here are the top 10 reasons to send your student to Aurum Prep:

1. Student to Teacher Ratio 12:1

Classes at Aurum Prep have an average student to teacher ratio of 12:1, allowing us to directly support each of our students. We prioritize making time for, and meeting the individual needs of each and every student. Our sixth to eighth graders are known for who they are and recognized as unique contributors to our small, supportive middle school.

2. Clubs and Athletics

Aurum Prep students who enjoy playing sports are always talking about our basketball and soccer teams. The camaraderie developed via athletics is a big part of our community culture. This extends into our much beloved Clubs - Finance, Art, Cooking and Gaming expand both friendships and learning opportunities for our free public charter school students.

3. Student Recognition @ Weekly Town Halls

Each Friday, we recognize student achievement in each grade during our school-wide student town hall. Different students are celebrated each week! We spotlight academic achievement with our weekly Gold Scholar and personal growth with our weekly Growth Scholar. Peers are encouraged to say a few words in support of the award winners, providing an even deeper level of connection and support for each other.

4. Culturally Diverse Teachers

Our teaching staff is representative of our community’s cultural diversity. We began Aurum Prep with a 75% black male teaching staff. While our demographics change year to year as we grow, the majority of our staff are men and women of color. Representation matters and ours is exceptional.

5. Social & Emotional Well Being

Each morning, we greet every one of our scholars by name, with a handshake and a personal greeting. Our students feel welcome and seen, and begin the morning on a positive note. In addition to creating this personalized connection, we also have a school psychologist to support our students’ mental health.

6. Moral Leadership Development

As ethical leaders ourselves, we lead by example to teach explicit character development. Our weekly curriculum immerses Aurum Prep students in learning about, experiencing and developing our core values: G.O.L.D. Growth, Optimism, Leadership, and Design Thinking.

7. College Visits in Middle School

To begin our students’ journey to visualizing and choosing the ideal college, we offer several college campus visits. We create experiences where our students interact with college students, walk around a campus and see new possibilities. This empowers our middle schoolers with informed t choices for the future.

8. Week Without Walls

We push Aurum Prep students to be creative thinkers and connect with the world around them. Our Week Without Walls is a full week where our scholars work on interdisciplinary projects outside of our school walls.

9. Optimism and Courage

We teach optimism and courage by helping students to learn from failure and grow. Trying new things is an important part of being human, and growing from what we learn is a process. This is also a foundational life skill and a big part of our community culture.

10. Innovation + Design Thinking

We teach all students to think about how to make things better. Design thinking is about taking apart ideas, looking at all angles and creating something new. Learning how to see and create more possibilities and solve problems through innovation is a foundational skill at our free, public middle school.
