At Aurum Preparatory Academy(Aurum Prep), joy in learning is as important to our mission as rigorous academics. We love the joy we see in our students when they achieve a goal previously out of reach. Or when they make a new connection with a classmate. Or even during our first school dance! We believe joy is an essential part of successful academic and social growth and we make room for it daily at our free, college prep middle school.
School Wide Events
Aurum Prep students were thrilled with our first all school dance this year and requested that it be made a yearly event (we can do that!). We also hold a Spirit Week each year with student generated ideas like Crazy Hair Day, Sports Day and Pajama Day.
We push Aurum Prep students to be creative thinkers and connect with the world around them. Our Week Without Walls is a chance for our scholars to work on interdisciplinary projects outside of our school building. It cultivates joy and creativity in learning and gives way to many A-HA! moments.
We celebrate and teach about many cultures, including Black History Month in February, Women’s International History Month in March and Hispanic Heritage Month every September. Our students continuously surprise us with their innovative thinking, like with their creative use of materials in our door decorating project during Black History Month.
Our vibrant community comes together often to celebrate the work of students, staff and families. This spring, our supportive families put together a beautiful feast to show gratitude for our staff during Teacher Appreciation Week.
And at the end of the school year, we take time to celebrate our hard work and accomplishments by sending our community off to summer break with a variety of all school events. From our formal graduation ceremony for Aurum Prep’s second graduating class of 2022 to the fan favorite Teachers vs. Students water balloon fight, joy is always present in our time together.
Community Circle
Each Friday, we recognize student achievement during our school-wide town hall called Community Circle. Different students are celebrated each week! We spotlight academic achievement with our Gold Scholar award and personal growth with our Growth Scholar award. Peers are encouraged to say a few words in support of the award winners, providing an even deeper level of connection and support for each other.
After School Fun
The fun doesn’t stop when the school day ends. Our after school clubs extend the joy in our day until 6:00 pm everyday. Interested in art? We’ve got a club for that. How about finance or cooking? We offer it all as a way to grow your middle schooler’s interests and skills in a safe, social environment.
