Personalized Attention
Classes at Aurum Prep have an average student to teacher ratio of 12:1, allowing our caring staff to get to know each student’s strengths and areas of challenge. We prioritize making time for, and meeting, the individual needs of each student.
Recognizing the need for stable, ongoing support and trusted counsel, we pair our students with an advisor who is their primary point person for years. Our Advisory model is one of the key ways we deliver 1:1 support for all students. With regularly scheduled check-ins, Aurum Prep students don’t have the chance to fall through the cracks as they might in other school models.
In our Focus classes, students learn at their own pace, choosing acceleration or remediation as needed per subject. Focus classes are small, providing time to deep dive into challenging subject areas. Teachers are able to differentiate, or provide tailored instructional support, in Focus classes so students can move through the material as they master skills and concepts.
Extra Support Model
Through a “Push In” model of teaching, our instructors participate as assistants in one another's classes. Our history teachers help english teachers catch students up, as do our math and science teachers. By collaborating across subjects, our teachers not only find support in a busy day, but our students also receive double the expertise. It’s an innovative model of team-teaching that we believe is a win-win for everyone.
After School Tutoring
Whether your child has an interest in math and wants to advance, or would benefit from extra time on grammar, Aurum Preparatory Academy offers free after-school tutoring to all students. Teachers provide extra support to students in all subject areas. We work over-time to fulfill our promise to the students of Oakland.
