When it comes to catching students up and getting them ahead, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Aurum Preparatory Academy (Aurum Prep) recognizes the individuality and strengths of each student at our tuition-free middle school and honors the need for learning that is personalized and meaningful.

Advisory at Aurum Preparatory Academy

All Aurum Prep students start and end the school day in a homeroom class with about 15 peers and a teacher that we call Advisory. Each Advisory group stays together throughout all three years at Aurum Prep, providing a foundation of close relationships.

At the heart of Advisory is a simple concept – consistent, supportive relationships are essential in the middle school years. Throughout the 3 year long Advisory group, students bond with their advisor and their peers and talk about real world issues affecting them in school or the world at-large. Advisory classes become much more than just another class–they are micro-communities that provide a nurturing environment to focus on social-emotional support and team-building.

Our advisors are teachers who take on the role of mentor, providing academic and character support to each 6th to 8th grade student. The Advisor is also the first point of contact for families–often providing updates, feedback and holding conferences regarding student behavior and academic progress.

Personalized Academic Support

The flexibility and long term nature of Advisory means that advisors can work with students 1:1 or in small groups and advise on any topic that arises. Advisors have insight into their students’ individual’s grades, strengths, goals and opportunities for growth. When students need extra tutoring or counseling, advisors identify the need early on and take steps to help students get the right support.

The final hour of school, in which students meet together in Advisory, is called Focus Hour. We leave this hour open for each student to spend time on personalized learning platforms, school work, or additional tutoring. Whether your student needs extra support on math or extra challenge in literacy, our advisors support students to reach their full potential.

Our small middle school provides just the right setting for students to receive personalized attention and support on their way to a college degree. If you are looking for a small school, where no one slips through the cracks, Aurum Preparatory Academy is enrolling for Fall 2023. We look forward to getting to know your student.
