Keeping Up With Your Middle Schooler

It’s no secret, middle schoolers can be less than forthcoming with information about school. Whether it slips their minds, or they are wrapped up in their social world, it can sometimes feel challenging to get your middle schooler to open up and share. At Aurum Preparatory Academy (Aurum Prep), we keep the communication lines open and strong to help keep our middle school students on the right path. Parents can rely on us for frequent, honest and clear communication to make the home-school connection strong. Here are a few ways you will hear from teachers and staff at our small, tuition-free charter school:

Advisory

Our foundational class, Advisory, pairs every student up with an Aurum Prep staff member and group of classmates for the entire 3 years of middle school. Our advisors act in the role of mentor, providing academic and character support to each 6th to 8th grade student. The Advisor is also the first point of contact for families–often providing updates, feedback and holding conferences regarding student behavior and academic progress. Parents can expect to hear from their student’s advisor at least once per month in addition to meeting with them during student-led conferences once per trimester.

Frequent Home-School Communication

We want to keep you informed of everything going on in your student’s day and school year. We utilize the convenient and easy to use ParentSquare app to provide information regarding field trips, school events, student records and more. Download the app or sign up for notifications using your cell phone or email to get information about your middle schooler quickly and efficiently.

Our webpage has information regarding school calendars, bell schedules and other important updates. We also publish all of our school policies for reference here.

Cafecitos

Once a month, our Executive Director, David Hardin, invites families in for conversation and coffee that we call a Cafecito. This is an informal opportunity for families to ask questions and discuss issues or events at Aurum Prep. We love hosting families and getting to know everyone in our small school.

At Aurum Prep, you are always informed and included in the conversation about your student’s success. Count on us to help you keep up with your middle schooler. We’re enrolling for 6th, 7th and 8th grade for the 2023-24 school year. Join us!
