7th Grade History Teacher
David Goodlett is a long time Oakland resident and Bay Area educator with over 25 years of experience teaching children from pre-school through high school in public, charter and private schools throughout the Bay Area. Additionally, Mr. Goodlett has worked for such programs as African American Male Achievement (A.A.M.A), STEM Steps, and was recently honored by A.A.R.E.A, the African American Regional Educational Alliance for a career of educational excellence. Through teaching History, Mr. Goodlett strives to help students understand how the past has shaped the present world and how students as authors of history can influence the lives of current and future generations. Mr. Goodlett believes in the principle of Sankofa—that knowledge of and critical reflection upon the past – be it their own personal past or history in general, is essential for students to act purposefully in the present and create an intentional future.
Mr. Goodlett is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota where he majored in English with minors in Philosophy and Religion, played basketball and was vice president of the Black Students Union. Mr. Goodlett is also Minister of Music at East Oakland’s Wose Community, and a guitarist and songwriter who performs professionally throughout the Bay Area and beyond.
